Speed Potential

It should be no surprise that your sails are your sailboats engine, and the more power they can develop, the faster your boat should go. At Elvstrom Sails we take great care to provide the best speed potential for every sail we produce, but the materials used, and the designs that we can therefore employ, create a wide difference in this potential.

Sails are under a lot of load, from the wind, and also the sheet loads. To perform well, especially to windward, sails need to stretch as little as possible - so in general terms, the less stretch in the sails,the faster the boat will go.

Carbon sits at the top of the list and polyester at the bottom.
