Comfort Potential

Your choice of sails has a big effect on the comfort in sailing your boat.

This can be the choice of rig - furling mast or standard mast.

It can the choice of equipment - headsail furling, lazyjacks, single line reefing, a snuffer and so on.

It can be the choice of the equipment built into the sails - number of reefs, furling UV guards, an overhead leechline, reef blocks, full length battens, slide systems

It a can also be about what the sails can do!

Your sails are your sailboats engine, and the more power they can develop, the faster your boat should go.

The materials used, and the designs that we can therefore employ, create a difference in how a boat goes to windward.  The less stretch in the sails, the closer to the wind the boat will go.

Does this sounds like a race sail advert? And maybe you think this has nothing to do with cruising in comfort? At Elvstrom Sails we believe there is a close connection between a performance sail built for cruising AND cruising in comfort!

Why? Well. the closer to the wind any boat can go, the less the angle of heel - as you know from experience, in a gust you point the boat up a bit, and the heel is less - what if the boat was sailing at this higher angle all the time?

Answer!

Less heel angle, same speed - more comfort.
