"Apollo" TP52 and their Fasnet Race     12th August 2009

On Wednesday 12th August 2009 Nigel & Donna Passmore sailed their TP52 Apollo into her new home port for the first time having competed in the Rolex Fastnet Race 2009. The Passmore's have been keeping her in Cowes in order to qualify for the race, they have spent their time there ensuring she is ship shape and ready for her adventure home via the Fastnet Rock. Part of the preparation included a new offshore mainsail supplied by Elvstrøm Sails using their latest technology EPEX.

On speaking to Nigel last night he was talking about blasting back from the Scillies at speeds reaching 20knts, you could clearly picture the big grin on his face! They were pleased to beat the other TP52's on the water and on handicap and the previous owner of the boat sailing who was sailing his new 80ft yacht. "This is a fantastic result for Nigel Passmore in his first race in Apollo," comments Kevin Sproul, European Race Manager for Elvstrøm Sails. "We've worked closely with Nigel on his most recent projects including making the sails for his all conquering J/133 also called Apollo. Nigel deserves this success; from the outset of this project he started thinking about ways to optimise the TP52. We agreed on a new offshore mainsail, with a revised leech profile would optimise the rating Vs performance. The new sail was delivered for the start of the Fastnet."

Apollo the first TP52 home and the only one using an Elvstrøm Sails mainsail this, another triumph for EPEX Technology. Although at one point they were looking victorious in their class, they missed out by 3 hours, taking 4th in IRC SZ. Congratulations to Nigel, Donna and their crew.

Following the Crown!              27th August 2009

Torbay Yacht Club hosted the 2009 J Cup from 20th - 22nd August, an event which just gets bigger and better every year, since the J Cup last visited Torquay 4 years ago the fleet has doubled in size.

This was a particularly good year for the customers of Elvstrøm Sails; we were well represented across the various classes from the smallest to the largest on the water. Our ethos has always been to support customers wherever they finish in the fleet and to develop new sails which will help them improve. We are an innovative sail maker and look to provide cutting edge sail design, new products and materials to our customers.

Evidence of the dedication and development couldn't be shown more clearly than by winning the team trophy at the J Cup. Dave Richards owner of J/109 Jumping Jellyfish and Colin Wall sailing J/97 True Love were winners of the Musketeer Trophy, a double bucket of champagne for being the lowest scoring team comprising of a J/109 and a boat from another class. Both of these boats are fitted with a full suit of EPEX sails, the latest developments in technology from Elvstrøm Sails.
It's all about ending a regatta on a high and that is what happened with our customers, as the regatta progressed so did our customers up through the fleets.

Congratulations must go to the following:

David & Mary McGough J/109 Just So for getting line honours and first overall in Class 4 in the JOG race down to Dartmouth, and then for winning the last race of the J/109 national Championships, using the 2009 headsail design!

Colin Wall, J/97 True Love, there was simply no stopping him on the water, finishing the regatta with the perfect score line of 8 race wins out of 8 races, and crowned J Cup winner 2009, there really was no other boat which came close.

David Jobson, J/109 Audjacious, having purchased the boat in 2008 and took to the Solent waters for what can only be described as one of the windiest J Cups to date, this year he ended the week with a 9th in the last race out of a strong fleet of 29.

Andrew & Annie Howe, J92s Black Jack finished with a 3rd in the last race in IRC 2, putting them in a comfortable 4th in class.

Jeremy Round-Smith J80 Jezebel got a 2nd in the J/80 class using an Elvstrøm Sails mainsail bringing them to equal points with second place, but finishing a very credible 3rd on count back.

Dave Richard, J/109 Jumping Jellyfish, finished 4th in the J/109 Nationals, improving on his 6th from 2008.
